The fairies were just starting to come out of their nests as Roxane set out down the meandering path to Ombra city. The sky was still dark, though much lighter than night. The stars seemed to lose their brilliance, and fade into the light of day, more and more with every step closer to the city she took. Today would be just like any other day once she got home. She could feel it. Nothing had changed since yesterday, aside from her barn being robbed of half her supplies. She was in dire need of new ones now, hence why she was going into the city today, instead of staying home and keeping the goose quiet so Dustfinger and Jehan could sleep a few more hours.
She finally wound her way down the path far enough that she could see the city gates. She stopped and looked at the soldiers guarding the city. Each of them was sixteen at most, maybe they were almost seventeen. Something inside hoped that they just looked young for their age. If they really were as young as they looked, then there was no way Jehan could escape being called to war, should the rumors be true. She sighed, and lowered her head in a combination of disgust and defeat, before picking back up again, and striding to the city gates.
She stopped, and told the guards her reason for being to the city today, before even being prompted to. She had done this too many times to wait for them to drawl out their requests. They should know her face by now! Who could forget a face like hers?
"I'm here to replace half my stock of farming supplies," she told them testily, "something I wouldn't have to do if you soldiers would do something about this pattern of robberies. Who steals garden hoes anyways!" She had to admit to herself that it probably wasn't even connected. The only way it could be would be if the culprit was stealing just to make people angry. No ulterior motives, or just wanting money. Just waking up and saying 'I wonder who I can piss off today'.
The guards let her through, like they always did. Maybe they did recognize her after all. Once she was on the other side of the gate, she had to stop and think of where to go now. Where had she gotten her supplies the first time?
