Your Name:: Abby Your Age:: 16 Canon or Original:: Cannon How did you find us:: from XOXINKHEART! PS; I just finished a Mo character sheet on XOXINKHEART so I hope you don’t mind if I copy and paste a few things. If not I’ll redo them or something.
-------
Name:: Mortimer Folchart Alias:: Mo or Silvertongue (The Bluejay is not allowed.) Age:: 42 Job/Position:: Bookbinder Location:: The abandoned farm near Ombra.
---
Appearance:: Mortimer is like your normal forty year old man. He stands at six feet and three inches and holds a normal weight of one hundred and eighty pounds. Mo isn’t built because all he usually does it sit around and read but he isn’t a scrawny little book nerd. Since battling in the Inkworld Mo has become more than just a defenseless book nerd, now he’s just as good as the most talented of sword wielders. Mo holds himself up straight with his hands at his side, always ready to draw his sword.
Mo’s hair color is dark brown but some even say it looks black. Mo’s hair isn’t long, and hasn’t been that long since he first cut it when he and Farid burnt Capricorn’s castle. His eye color ranges from a dull blue to a light grey, all depending on how you look at them or in the light. Mo’s eyes always look about curiously wanting to take everything in. His eyes have drunk in thousands and thousands of books and still they want more.
Depending on who Mo is acting like (Himself/Silvertongue or the Bluejay) you can either completely read his expressions or not. While acting like himself he’s pretty much an open book, but when in his Bluejay persona he’s like a closed book and a cold one at that. Usually Mo has a happy go-lucky smile on his face, but sometimes when things aren’t going his way his face will hold nothing but a cold and expressionless face.
In the ‘normal’ world Mo’s usual outfit was a dress shirt usually of light colors that are his favorite (Blues and greens) a soft brown jacket and dress pants and you can always suspect him to have his case of bookbinding tools and a book nearby. In the Inkworld Mo’s usual attire consist of a black wardrobe that bookbinders wear. ( with a couple of hiding places for secret knifes and a sword at his side… But that was long ago.)
Distinguishing Features:: Mortimer has a scar from a dog bite he received some eleven years ago from Basta’s dogs while trying to escape Capricorn’s village. He also has a bullet wound scar on his chest from Mortola shooting him.
Personality:: Mo, it seems, at times has spilt personalities ranging from his normal persona Mortimer aka Silvertongue the man with a heart of gold, to the cold and heartless killer known as The Bluejay. At the moment he has locked Bluejay up for fear of insanity. Sometimes he wishes that just once he could become the Bluejay once again and feel the adventure he had ten years ago. Depending on who you talk to depends on the personality he’ll have.
Mo the bookbinder is man of innocence. He’s kind and caring. The thought of killing never sits in his mind. He’s always looking for a way to make peace instead of pain. He’s willing to cheer up a weary face by any means possible. He’d do anything for just about anyone if you give him a good enough reason to. The title ‘heart of gold’ completely suits Mortimer.
Mo also always has a happy go lucky smile on that kind face of his. He’s always ready to let kind and encouraging words spill out of him. He’s a very optimistic person when it comes to danger. He also expects the best out of people even though, sometimes, he knows that no such thing could ever happen. It seems he’s a bit denial about the bad things in the world whenever he’s down on his luck.
Now the Bluejay on the other had is mostly the exact opposite of Mo. Though he is willing to give up his own life for the risk of others he’s still as heartless as any other robber in the Inkworld. As of now this part of Mo is hidden beneath the thickest of walls in Mo’s head. He’s going, if not already, crazy. Thanks to the torment Orpheus has planted in his head some ten years ago.
Strengths:: -Has a captivating voice -Can wield a sword -Compassion -Book binding
Weaknesses:: -Hiding emotions -Too optimistic -Would do anything for a good book
---
Companions:: Resa and Meggie Folchart, His son, Dustfinger, The Black Prince, Elinor, Darius and Fenoglio.
History:: Mortimer was born to a family that had plenty of books always shelved around the house. From a young age Mortimer loved to read. He loved to read so much that he wanted to help cure sick books all over the world when he grew up. That’s really all that is known about his young life. When he was in his late teens he met the love of his life Theresa Loredan while binding some books for her aunt, Elinor. He knew from the moment he laid eyes on her that she was the one. Within a year or two the couple was getting married and would soon be having a child on the way. Mo had always wanted a little girl, the thought of a boy made him shudder. Within nine months time he got what he wanted a bouncing baby girl who they would name Meggie. Little Meggie was as beautiful as her mother that he knew on the spot.
Three years pasted with love and happiness. Mo and Resa loved their daughter more than anything in the world, even more than reading. Resa loved it when Mo read to her and their daughter and did it all the time. Every night he read to them before bed. On night, after a day of shopping, the happy couple picked up a book called ‘Inkheart’ by Fenoglio. Mo from the moment he picked up that book felt that something wasn’t wrong with it. But with Resa’s constant pleas he read to her anyway. As the story unraveled Mo noticed that something wasn’t right. Things whispered into the wind and eerie chills ran down his spine. Then out of nowhere three men appeared in his room: Dustfinger, Basta, and Capricorn. He looked around and Resa was gone. Mo, in a panic, picked up a near sword one of them dropped and shooed them out of his house. Resa was gone and Meggie was bawling. That was when he realized what had happened. He was ‘special’ when he read things came to life and other things when into the books. For a whole year Mo tried with all his might to bring his wife back but with no avail. His Resa was gone!
For the next nine years Mo looked after Meggie and told her that her mother traveled far away. For nine years it was just the two of them. He and his daughter got along great – there wasn’t a greater pair out there! Then one night while it rained Meggie spotted a strange man looking around. She ran to Mo and was quickly calmed by Mo saying that it was a friend. This began the tale that would change the two of their lives forever. Mo had one of the last known copies of Inkheart and went to his wife’s aunt to hide it from him. With little luck Dustfinger ratted him out and he was sent to Capricorn who had grown quiet powerful. Meggie and Elinor were quick to join them. Mo was forced to read them gold and jewels how disgusted he was with them. Within a couple of days they escaped but Meggie was captured again within a few weeks. Mo went to rescues her, only to find that his dear Resa was back in this world, but without a voice. Mo saved the day. He saved Meggie, lost Fenoglio to the book, got his mute wife back, gave Elinor some fairies, and left Dustfinger to wallow in self pity because he still wasn’t back in his own world.
One year later Mo, Resa and Meggie were living with Elinor and living as much as a normal life they could. But nothing can ever stay to normal for the Flowcharts for long! Dustfinger was read back into his story by a devious little man named Orpheus and Farid needed to see his hero once again. So Meggie and Farid went into the story. It didn’t take long for Resa and Mo to follow against their own will. Mortola shot Mo only minutes after they arrived in the Inkworld and left Mo to die. With the help of Fenoglio’s words and his daughter’s voice Mo was saved. But of course there were more problems that laid ahead for Mo. Fenoglio had based a character, The Bluejay, after him which got him sent to the castle of night. There Mo was forced to bind the Adderhead a book that would allow this evil prince to live forever. Slyly Mo made sure he wet every tenth page so the book would mold. He, Resa and Meggie left the castle reunited. But there was something different with Mo; his heart had coldness to it. He found out that the coldness belonged to the Bluejay who lived beside him in his mind. This would cause trouble for the trio Folcharts.
Three months later Mo received word that Resa was pregnant. With very bad timing he also learned that the Adderhead’s book was starting to decay and the man was trying everything in his power to stop it. The Adderhead did the cruelest of things. He killed every book binder who couldn’t fix his book and even gathered up the children of Ombra. Mo, being the kind person he is, gives himself up. Violante had fallen in love with the idea of the Bluejay so she snatched him away in an attempt to save him and to get him to help her kill her father the Adderhead and took him to the castle on the lake. This only makes matters worse for Mo. For the Adderhead and his men snuck into the castle and foiled her plans. Orpheus who had become like a little puppy dog to the Adder makes the Bluejay start to go crazy. In attempt to save himself Mo makes the adder head another book and it works. With the help of binding he locked the Bluejay up deep inside himself. With the help of Jacpo Mo killed the Adderhead and helped Violante to gain her title as ruler of Ombra.
Five months later Resa gave birth to a son, and Mo, although a bit upset that it wasn’t a girl, loved his new son. Now with his family growing bigger and his attachment to the Inkworld Mo thinks it’s better if they stay there at least for the time being.
Now ten years later, Mo lives with his family in an abounded farm house they had used so many years ago, Mo binds books for the people of the Inkworld. The Bluejay is gone, locked deep within him and there isn’t a chance in the world he’ll let him out, unless his family is in peril. The only question is…is the Bluejay crazy? Will letting the Bluejay out destroy his mind like it almost did ten years ago? Such questions need to be answered before he’d ever dream of letting his cold self out. But now everyone knows a war is on its way. Everyone, including Mo can feel it. Will he need to let himself go to protect the people he loves most? Would it just be better if he took his family back to the real world and try to live a normal life once again?
Such decisions Mo has to make with who knows how much time to spare.
